Technology and the Classroom
The emergence of campus technology is evident in every institution of higher learning nationwide and around the world. I have seen and experienced how technology drove new directions at Maryville University to support the academic and administrative processes.
We must recognize the in flux of new strain of technology-savvy learners, both the traditional and non-traditional learners expecting a successful college life through quality and effective instructions and learning. A very special group of my interest are the non-traditional students or adult learners. This group of learners seeks alternatives to traditional classroom instructions when they return to school to remain competitive in this information and technology-driven corporate world and in the society they chose to live in.
Teaching demands greater responsibility from the academic community--- the learners, the teachers, and the staff. It involves a serious commitment to deliver more effective and efficient ways to provide a student-centered and meaningful learning environment.
Equally important, is to equip teachers with the appropriate tools intertwined with their own pedagogical standpoint and philosophical views on how and why they teach and engage students to learn.

I believe ---teaching is a perpetual process, it only ceases when learning starts! We must continue to find meaning in what we are teaching and learning. Meaningful learning can be achieved through collaboration and the proper use of technology providing a more student-centered learning.
Students are to be engaged in active, constructive, intentional, authentic, and cooperative learning (Jonassen, Howland, Moore and Marra, 2003). Likewise, we must recognize the transforming the role of the teacher as "guide on the side" from the conforming role of "sage on the stage".
